A LATE-NIGHT kebab van will bring “unwanted visitors’ to a quiet village, it is feared.

Residents, police and the county council's highway department are united in their opposition to the proposed takeaway in Nazeingbury Parade.

A campaign has been launched by villagers, who say the kebab van, which plans to stay open until midnight, will cause a rise in anti-social behaviour and litter.

Essex Police oppose the plan, warning it could lead to rowdy behaviour and feuds between traders, while discarded kebabs may create a health hazard.

Essex County Council Highways department also warn the van will take up too much room in a small car park.

Resident Kate Lock, from Elizabeth Close in Nazeing said: “I don't understand why such an application should be granted, as there is no call for a kebab van.

"All shops within Nazeingbury Parade serve the community well, thus closing at 9pm.

“If anyone wants Kebabs there are places in Hoddesdon, Waltham Abbey and Harlow.

“I feel if this was granted it would cause the utmost stress to local residents, bringing unwanted visitors to Nazeing in the evenings, unruly drunks, noise, pollution, disturbance, litter, taking up to many parking spaces - to name such a few.

“It would cause a whole host of problems, I do not want this here.”

The district council's licensing sub-committee will decide next Thursday (September 3) whether to allow the kebab van to open.
