THE Liberal Democrats have retained the Buckhurst Hill East seat on the parish council.
Gavin Chambers won the by-election contested yesterday (August 27) with 614 votes.
His Conservative rival Marshall Vance secured 312 votes while the BNP scored 56. Turnout was 28 per cent.
The by-election was called following the death of long-term Lib Dem councillor Malcolm Woollard earlier this year.
