Boreham Wood 2
Billericay Town 0
BOREHAM WOOD made it two wins on the trot as they saw off the challenge of Bllericay Town on Monday.
Ian Allinson made two changes to the side that won at Ashford Town, including Jamie Richards and Greg Morgan for Dean Green and Chris Watters.
Wood survived an early scare when Dave Wareham found Ian Wiles, who teed up James Baker for a shot that forced Tony Tucker into a fine stop on the goal line, before a defender scrambled away Joe Flack's follow up.
Wood displayed an air of confidence after Saturday's first win of the season and soon got into their stride, with Mario Noto impressive both in defence and attack.
A loose back pass was pounced upon by Joe Reynolds. He drove into the penalty area but was denied by the sprawling Andy Walker in goal.
Walker then conceded a penalty, and was helpless as Sosthene Yao picked his spot to score his second goal in as many starts for his new club on 22 minutes.
Yao then turned provider a minute before half time. He out muscled a defender on the right byline and delivered a tantalising cross that eventually found Greg Morgan, who controlled his volley superbly to double Wood's lead.
The second half failed to live up to the first, save for the excellent defensive performance by Wood.
The win lifts Wood into 13th place in the table, and left manager Allinson a happy man. “We were professional today and kept our shape very well. We took our chances well and had an excellent first half,” he said.
“The win on Saturday certainly helped us confidence-wise. Billericay were left chasing the game and although I felt we could have done better in the final fifteen minutes, defensively we were outstanding with Kevin Stephens, Curtis Ujah and Daniel Brathwaite pretty much unbeatable. Add to that the quality that we have in Tony Tucker between the sticks, teams will find it very hard to break us down.”
