A GAY man who was forced to leave home as a teenager is organising a night of entertainment to raise money for the charity that helped him back on his feet.

Sean Robinson, 21, of Mersey Road, Walthamstow, was asked to leave his home when he came out as gay at the age of 14.

Mr Robinson, who was then living in Stockwell, south London, felt he could not return home and lived with different friends and relatives throughout his final school years.

Following advice and support from the Albert Kennedy Trust, he was able to get a place at a hostel for the homeless and managed to get a job, moving to Walthamstow shortly afterwards.

He said: “It is a very common experience, and the trust was there for me - it is a kind of community.”

He is now arranging a night at the Pig & Whistle pub, in Wood Street, Walthamstow, on October 24 to raise money for the trust, which helps helps lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender people who have been homeless.

Mr Robinson said: “The Albert Kennedy Trust does valuable work and is under represented as a charity.

Mr Robinson is also organising a regular gay club night, called Pink Amateurs at the pub.

The night, every other Saturday from September 12 between 8pm and 1am, will feature live DJs.
