A CHARITY and a doctor have donated specialist heart monitoring equipment to the Byron Cardiology Unit at Whipps Cross University Hospital.
The portable monitors, which follow heart rhythm continuously for up to a week, are worn by patients suffering from symptoms like palpitations and black outs and allows the unit to gather accurate readings for analysis.
Dr Abdul Sheikh and charity the Waltham Forest Muslim Burial Trust raised £4,000 to purchase the equipment and donated it to the Leytonstone hospital.
Maria Arrow, senior chief cardiac physiologist, said: “There is a lot of demand for this type of equipment in the unit with a long waiting list. Now we have more monitors we can see many more patients.
Byron Cardiology Unit provides a variety of services such as consultations with cardiologists, heart failure service, cardiac rehabilitation and Myocardial Persion Scan to the community.
Dr Sheikh said: “The Muslim community have donated funds for specialist equipment to various departments to Whipps Cross, particularly for the cardiology and diabetes units.
“Along with my colleagues from the Waltham Forest Muslim Burial Trust, I will continue to donate vital equipment to the hospital in the future.”
