Widely-criticised plans to operate a late night Kebab van for a village parade have been booted out by the district council.
The plans to have a mobile kebab van attracted protests from Essex police, business owners and local residents of Nazeingbury Parade.
They feared that their peaceful road would become littered with discarded kebabs, posing a safety hazard and encourage outsiders to come and misbehave late at night.
Essex Police also opposed the plans, saying that it would increase anti-social behaviour.
Villagers can breathe a sigh of relief today as the plans were rejected at a district council meeting last night (Thursday September 3).
A spokesman for the district council said: "The reasons given for the refusal were that there were objections received from Essex Police, Essex Highways and from EFDC Environment and Street Scene under the grounds of Public Nuisance and Crime and Disorder."
