BROWNIES in Chingford celebrated 100 years of girlguiding this afternoon.
The 11th Chingford Brownie Pack, based in Kings Head Hill, celebrated the historic landmark by between them completing 100 different challenges.
Brownowl Samantha Weir said: “It has been a good event everyone has enjoyed it and has learnt about the history of guiding.”
An estimated half a million Guides, Brownies and Rainbows are celebrating the centenary across the country.
More than 7,000 visitors are estimated to have attended an event at Crystal Palace, where a group of girls asked scouts founder Lord Robert Baden-Powell for their own movement in 1909.
According to Girlguiding UK, one in four eight-year-old girls in the UK is a brownie.
Miss Weir, who is also the district commissioner for North Chingford brownies, said more people are needed to help run brownie events in the area.
