CINEMA campaigners have organised a 'day of action' against plans to convert the former EMD building into a church.
The McGuffin Film Society is holding a day of “constructive protest” for residents to discuss the planning application submitted by the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG) for a change of use for the Hoe Street building from a cinema to a church.
The group will also invite residents to register their comments on the planning application – the day before the council's deadline for comments and objections on Monday, September 14.
Bill Hodgson of the McGuffin Film Society said: "Rather than just stage another demo we wanted to give supporters a forum to make a more constructive protest.”
The Day of Action is being held on Sunday, September 13, from 3pm, at the Rose and Crown pub in Hoe Street, Walthamstow.
It will include a performance from musician Ed Tudor-Pole, former 1980s band member of Tenpole Tudor and former presenter of 'The Crystal Maze'.
There will also be children's entertainers, exhibitions and film screenings including the premiere of 'Save Our Screen', a documentary about the former EMD by student film-makers Charlie Pegg and James Wright.
