SMALL businesses in Waltham Forest can take advantage of a £5 million Government fund.
Waltham Forest is one of areas eligible to receive funding from the Home Office's Small Retailer Capital Grants Fund.
Shop keepers can receive as much as £3,000 to pay for security devices like alarms and security grills.
Store owners can also join forces to be awarded a larger £50,000 grant which can be spent on improving an area generally like adding extra lighting.
Crime has cost small shops around £13,500 per year according to research by pressure group the Federation of Small Businesses.
James Lowman, chief executive of campaign group Association of Convenience Stores, said: “Retail crime is not victimless, causing distress for staff and business owners and costing money that undermines the viability of an important community service.”
The deadline for applications is Wednesday, September 30.
