AN elderly lady suffered from facial injuries after she tripped and fell on uneven paving.
The woman, believed to be in her 70's, fell over on Epping High Street outside Next and was assisted by passers by.
An ambulance was called to the scene at just before 10am this morning (September 8) and paramedics treated the pensioner who had blood pouring from her face.
She was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital for further treatment.
The high street has been the scene of accidents in the past where people have tripped and injured themselves on the uneven pavements.
Debbie Green, 28 who works at Sweet Temptations said she had tripped up recently.
She added: “It's awful out there. It's so uneven and I tripped over the other day on the pavement where it had come up. It was just before the Sue Rider shop and I tripped over and ripped my shoes so was quite annoyed about it.
"My mum has also fallen over in the high street before and she fell into the road and was nearly run over.
"So many people fall over and a lot of our customers have come in after falling over and hurting their leg, or something else.
"Instead of spending loads of money putting in the pavement outside Costa Coffee the council should use the money to fix the pavements.
"It stops people coming to Epping, especially old people, because once they have fallen over they are scared to go back out there again.”
Silvia Kilburn who volunteers at Oxfam saw the accident this morning.
She said: “As a lady of 79 I'm terrified of falling over on the high street. I think the pavements are disgraceful.
"I saw the paramedics helping the lady this morning but I didn't stop because there were already a lot of people there helping and I'm sure she didn't want an audience.
"I dread to think what would happen if I tripped over. I think the councillors need to walk along the high street and realise how bad it is.
"Epping is full of old people and it's so dangerous. But it's not just old people who fall over, it's dangerous for everyone.”
