A WOODFORD Green school is to hold a grand opening of a new £400,000 science block.
Woodford Green Preparatory School, in Glengall Road, will open the new building on Thursday, named in honour of long-serving PTA members and governors Kathleen and Christopher Whitfield.
Dr Whitfield, a retired GP who died last April, and her husband Christopher acted as governors from 1974 to 2002 and the new block is to be called the Whitfield Building after the couple.
The PTA also contributed £10,000 towards furnishing and equipping the building and work was completed by July this year.
School secretary Jo Youldon said: “It's a brand new facility which will incorporate science and rehearsal and meeting rooms.
“Kathleen died after a short illness but the couple have both given long service to the school.”
Dr Christopher Whitfield, also a retired GP, now in his 80s, will officially open the building along with son Patrick and daughter Deirdre, who both attended the school.
