THOUSANDS of pounds worth of Asian-style jewellery was stolen from two different homes in Redbridge last night (Monday).
Police believe the break-ins were carried out by thieves specifically targeting the distinctive gold items.
During one burglary, in Staines Road Ilford, more than £3,000 worth of jewellery was taken, with a similar amount stolen from another property in Inverclyde Gardens, Chadwell Heath.
Police have not confirmed the time of the two burglaries.
Anyone with information should call Ilford police station on: 8345 2613.
Officers have urged Asian residents to buy safes to keep their religious jewellery secure.
A police spokesman said: "Use timing switches to operate lights in your home when you're away and always set your house alarm if you have one.
If possible you should always photograph separately high value pieces of jewellery on a dark background."
