A GROUP of charity workers are setting off from Epping High Street this morning (September 10) to embark on a four day trek across Jordan.
The women work for The Dream Factory which grants the wishes of terminally ill children, and have so far raised £20,000 in sponsorship to help with the vital funds needed to keep the charity going.
Founder Avril Mills said: “The last day of the trek on September 14 will be the anniversary of when my son died. I wanted to do something special and he went through so much so I can do this for him. I have never done anything like this before and we will be walking for about 22 hours in temperatures of 36 to 40 degrees.”
Avril's son Oliver had Leukaemia from the age of three, and died aged nine.
He was her inspiration for setting up the charity.
She said: “Everyday I think about him and he still affects my whole live. When he was in hospital we arranged for a little boy to go and see Arsenal play and Oliver said he wanted me to help other people have their dreams made. I will be thinking of him to get through this challenge. I'm excited but also very nervous because it's very unknown to me. It will be a great challenge.”
