A SPECIAL commendation ceremony was held today for Redbridge police officers who showed bravery and professionalism under the toughest circumstances.
The ceremony, held at the Metropolitan Police Sports Club in Chigwell, recognised officers for their efforts in arresting dangerous criminals and standing up to pressure.
Commendations were given for acts including helping to nab prolific car thieves in South Woodford, as well as trying to save the life of a man who was stabbed in the street in Ilford.
Other officers were commended for helping to keep members of the public safe after a protest march turned ugly earlier this year in central London.
The awards are given out annually to police officers, PCSOs and other staff who are deemed to have helped make Redbridge and London safer.
Speaking at the ceremony, borough commander Chief Superintendent Peter Terry said: “These are people going far beyond what we would expect from a normal person.
“It's an absolute pleasure to be able to lead people in circumstances like that because these people make my job easier.”
Officers and staff who have recently retired were also recognised for their long service at the ceremony.
Ch Supt Terry added: “I consider it a privilege to be in charge of a police station with so many people who have performed so many heroic acts.
“It's not just about heroic acts but about individuals who themselves forward and deliver on behalf of Redbridge and the wider London community.”
