A CHILDREN'S sports tournament is to take place next week at Redbridge Sports Centre.
About 500 Year Six pupils from 25 schools across the borough will compete in sports including netball, tag rugby and athletics as part of the Caterham School Sports Partnership.
The partnership is formed of Caterham High School, in Caterham Avenue, Ilford and eight other secondary schools in the borough, working to improve sports provision at the primary schools.
Sue Maran, of the Caterham School Sports Partnership, said: “Caterham is the hub. Altogether, there are 40 primary schools in the Caterham partnership.
“The secondary schools go in and help the primary schools with sports – they have meetings and tournaments for all different year groups.
“It's about providing better quality PE for the schools.”
The tournament at Redbridge Sports Centre is to take place on September 23 and will also see about 100 pupils from the nine secondary schools in the partnership helping to run the day.
Caterham became a designated sports college in 2003 and has been gradually building up the sports partnership since then.
The partnership also aims to increase opportunities for children to take part in sport across Redbridge.
Caterham's sports facilities are also open to sports clubs and the local community.
