A MEDIC being held in a detention camp in Sri Lanka has been released and returned to Chingford.
Damilvany Gnanakumar was working helping civilians in a detention camp in Vavuniya when she got caught up between bloody clashes between the Sri Lankan army and Tamil Tiger rebels.
She was finally returned home last week following her family's heart-felt plea for her release in May after they had lost contact with her.
The 25-year-old, known as Vani, had been held for four months during which she was questioned by the Sri Lankan government.
British officials engaged in discussions with the government to secure her release.
