THE murder of Clive Enkel is to be re-enacted for the BBC show Crimewatch, a year on from his violent death at his home in Abridge.
Mr Enkel, 52, was beaten to death by a group of unknown attackers at his home in Alderwood Drive last September while he tried to protect his elderly father.
Essex Police were forced to admit failure earlier this month after two men who were taken in for questioning three times were released without charge. Now they are hoping that the reconstruction by Crimewatch due for broadcast later this month will open new leads into the murder which rocked the quiet village.
Detectives have appealed to tradesmen who are known to have been leafleting in the area, as well as local residents, for information.
Antique dealers in the town have also been asked to help as Mr Enkel was known to buy items locally.
Senior investigating officer, Detective Superintendent Tracy Hawkings, said: “The attack on Clive Enkel was horrendous and his death has left his family devastated.
“Nearly a year after his murder we have yet to find those people responsible for bringing his life to a cruel and untimely end.
“I am thankful that this type of crime is very rare, and I am confident that someone must have information which will help us bring these people to justice.
“There must be someone out there who has information about this case which could have been playing on their minds for some time.
"I urge you to come forward with that information as it may be key to helping us catch these criminals.
Your information will be treated in the strictest confidence so if you know anything at all please contact us or Crimestoppers anonymously.”
Detectives continue to investigate the possibility that the suspects may have been in the area previously, in the days prior to the attack, looking for work.
Anyone with information should contact the Brentwood Major Investigation Team on 0300 333 4444 ext 75229 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
