POLICE will be clamping down on traffic violations as part of a “zero tolerance day” next Thursday (24).
Officers in Leytonstone ward will spend eight hours focusing solely on tackling motorists who use mobile phones while driving, do not wear seat belts and who break traffic rules.
Police say the day has been organised because of concerns raised by residents.
A police spokeswoman said: "The difference between zero tolerance day and any other is that we will only be concentrating on this issue for this day where as every other day we have numerous other issues to deal with."
It is not yet clear whether extra cover will be brought into the ward to carry out the police officers' usual duties.
The zero tolerance scheme will run from noon until 8pm.
