POLICE have launched a new scheme aimed at helping youngsters avoid getting involved in crime and anti-social behaviour.
The Police Explores project will involve children aged 11 to 14 - and is designed to give them the social skills they need to stay out trouble.
A pilot scheme is being launched to test out the idea at Loxford and Mayfield Schools in Ilford, where 30 pupils will take part in a variety of specially designed activities and challenges including first aid training, climbing and ice skating.
Police hope some of the youngsters will eventually go on to join the Police Cadets.
Officers from forensics, firearms, traffic, mounted and dogs teams are due to become involved in the project.
