A FILM on the problem of 'peak oil' is to be screened at a Leytonstone gallery.
Transition Waltham Forest will screen 'The Power of Community – How Cuba Survived Peak Oil' at the 491 Gallery this Sunday (September 27).
The film explores how Cuba survived in the 1990s when imports of Russian oil were halted, and the resulting creativity in finding solutions.
'Peak oil' is the term used to describe the point in time when the maximum rate of oil extraction is reached and production enters terminal decline.
Transition Waltham Forest is part of the Transition Towns movement, whose members try to find ways to cut their carbon footprint and rely less on fossil fuels.
The screening will be followed by a group discussion and vegetarian food will also be on sale before the film starts.
Tickets are £3 and doors open at 5.45pm for a 6.30pm screening.
Transition Waltham Forest will also be showing two more films at the 491 Gallery on October 25 and November 29.
