POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man armed with a baseball bat tried to rob a cash in transit van in the car park of Sainsbury's supermarket in Chadwell Heath.
The Flying Squad is now investigating after the incident, which happened last Friday (September 18) at around 11.30am.
A white man wearing a hooded top was seen trying to take a cash box off a guard as he made his way back to the van.
The crook was was unsuccessful and ran off.
He was then seen getting into a Silver Astra which made off via the car park exit in Reynolds Avenue.
The guard escaped without injury.
No arrests have been made.
