IT'S a good week for those of you who like live jazz, with a series of cracking smooth shows across East London over the next few days. Nice (hoho!).

What better way to start than with Leytonstone's East Side Jazz Club, which meets at the Lord Rookwood Pub.

Next Tuesday (September 29) the venue hosts a double bill of talent with performances from Jay Phelps and Shabaka Hutchings.

Doors open around 8.30pm and entry is £5 (TBC).

Jazz is also available in plentiful amounts at the Plough Inn, Walthamstow, this Thursday (September 24) with a performance from six piece troupe Porpoise Corpus.

Expect an “adventurous”, saxophone-heavy sound.

The night is presented by promoters E17 Jazz, with entry costing £5. Doors open at eight.

Meanwhile on Sunday (September 27), Walthamstow Folk presents clawhammer banjo master Hunter Robertson at the same venue.

Entry is £6, or £5 for concessions, and doors open at 8pm.

On Monday (September 26), it's free Blues Jam Night from 9pm.

At the Waltham Abbey Folk Club, based at the local Royal British Legion HQ in Brooker Road, it's a singaround night on Monday (September 26).

Entry is £1.50, and things kick off around 8.30pm.

Rock night Bowled Over returns to Wanstead with a vengeance this Friday (September 25).

Hosted by the Aldersbrook Bowls Club in Aldersbrook Road, the night will see the funky and tune-soaked group Broken Stars play a headline set.

Doors open at 8pm.

At the Standard in Walthamstow, promoters Club Bus Wind presents another night of unsigned rock goodness on Thursday (September 24).

Taking to the stage are local bands Hold Fast Hope, Swinging for Mars and Marauder.

Entry is £5 with a band flyer, £6 without, and doors open around 8pm.

On Friday (September 25) superb tribute act Oasiz play for £9, starting at 8pm, while the U2s play the day after (Saturday September 26) same time, place and price.

And next Wednesday (September 30) upstairs at Leytonstone's Sheepwalk, promoters What's Cookin' present American duo Beverly Smith and Carl Jones.

Support comes from the folky James Appollo.

Things get going around 9pm.
