PUPILS from Wanstead High School will take part in a double celebration of the arts at Valentines Mansion tomorrow (Thursday).

The year 8 youngsters will mark the success of the Redbridge Mapping Project (RMP), with a day-long exhibition of their work at the historic house in Ilford.

The innovative borough-wide arts scheme was designed to bring people of different ages and cultures closer together by recording aspects of their every day lives using photographs and other visual media - all of which will be put on display in a number of specially made books from 2pm until 7pm.

The book compiled by the Wanstead High youngsters will be displayed alongside others created by members of Redbridge Age Concern, The Gujarati Welfare Association and other community groups from across the borough that took part in the project.

Kirstin Maguire, of Studio 3 Arts - which helped run the scheme - said the Wanstead High pupils' efforts would help break down barriers between people of different ages and backgrounds.

She said: "The children used a wide range of visual media to map their life journeys, both physical and emotional.

"The project was designed to give people in these very different groups useful skills, as well as a chance to highlight what goes on in their every day lives.

"All of these books will be exhibited so that people can enjoy the work put together by each group."

The pupils got to work with a number of professional artists during the project, which was jointly funded by the school, in Redbridge Lane West, and the other groups involved.

The group will also help celebrate the launch of a new book called 'Hearts and Minds - an Exploration of Redbridge,' during tomorrow's event.

The book launch will take place at the Mansion at 6pm.
