COMPLAINTS against police in London have risen.
Figures released by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) have revealed that there were 6144 complaints against the Metropolitan Police between 2008 and 2009 and 10849 allegations against officers.
The increase in complaints of 15 per cent is well above the national rise of eight per cent.
The number of investigated allegations has been steadily increasing since 2004/2005, from 18 per cent to 37 per cent.
IPCC Chair Nick Hardwick said: "We want to make sure the system focuses on sorting out complainants' concerns and putting things right.
"People accept things will sometimes go wrong and on these occasions they do not necessarily want to see an officer punished. But what they do want is for the mistake to be acknowledged and not repeated, put right if possible and an apology or explanation given.”
