YOUNG footballers from North Weald are starring in a new supporter’s song for England’s World Cup 2010 campaign.
Weald Bassett FC were approached by Robert Grace, who wrote the track This My Dear Is England, and directed the video, after he drove past a training session in April.
When he saw one player beat his chest with pride he decided that was exactly what he needed for his video.
North Weald FC, which consists of seven teams of boys aged from three to 17, is run by Nigel Vickery, who described the song as “anthemic”.
He added: “It’s one of those songs that, as soon as you hear it, you start to think ‘OK, I could really get into this’. It represents everything that it means to be an England fan – raising the St George’s cross above your head and singing your heart out with pride.”
The video has been featured on Sky News, a Facebook group has been set up and it has attracted thousands of hits on You Tube.
The track will be sold on iTunes and as a CD single, alongside a DVD featuring the video and a ‘making of’ documentary.
In addition, the clothing seen in the video will be sold and the organisers are currently in talks with a major supermarket chain. A minimum of 20 per cent of all profits will go to the charity Help for Heroes.
