A DISABLED couple who suffered a month-long campaign of Mafia-style persecution are still waiting to find out if they can be rehoused.

An animal heart with a knife through it was left on the doorstep of Dorothy and Charles Coote's home in Arundel Close, Leytonstone and the couple also endured death threats and arson attacks.

Mrs Coote was also physically attacked by two men who hit over the head in the street and human faeces have been left outside the house.

The attacks on their home began at the end of July but the Cootes, who are Ascham Homes tenants, have yet to find out whether they will be given alternative accommodation.

They say things have been quieter since the installation of a camera in their kitchen but remain anxious the attacks could start again.

Mrs Coote, 57, said: “I'm still frightened and when I go out, I'm still looking over my shoulder.

“People probably know there's a camera, but to me, it seems pointless, because they put it at the front and everything's been happening at the back.”

She added that she now carries an attack alarm with her whenever she leaves the house.

Mr Coote, 67, said: “The police came and installed the camera about a fortnight ago and it's all been quiet.

“We've been in touch with Ascham Homes but we still don't know whether they're going to move us.”

The Guardian is awaiting a comment from Ascham Homes.
