MORE than £1,900 was raised for the disabled at a sizzling Hog Roast event at the appropriately-named Garnish Hall in Theydon Garnon.

The day saw over 130 people enjoy some delicious grub backed by music from jazz band The Mahogany Stompers and a team of skillful jugglers, all in aid of the Jubilee Lodge Holiday Home for the Disabled in Chigwell.

The event was organised jointly by the Rotary Club of Epping Forest and the Friends of Jubilee Lodge group.

Its chairman, Ros Dover, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the amount raised, but without the support of the Rotary Club of Epping who organised the roasting of the hog, ran the bar and generally helped in the organisation, this would not have been possible.

"We are truly grateful to them."

The lunch was also attended by John Spence OBE, who is the chairman of the Trustees of Vitalise - the charity which runs Jubilee Lodge.

While he was there, Mr Spence also took the opportunity to make previous chairman Denis Green a Vice-President of Vitalise.

Mr Green retired as chairman of the Friends of Jubilee Lodge earlier this year after 14 years service, during which time it raised almost a quarter of a million pounds for the centre.
