HUNDREDS of people watched spectacular displays at the Light Up Langthorne Park festival.
There were light spinners, fire jugglers and children's entertainers at the free event in Langthorne Park, Leytonstone on Saturday evening.
School children also designed costumes and sculptures on the theme of exotic birds and performed at the festival, which was organised by Waltham Forest Borough Council as part of the Fellowship is Life Festival 2009.
Tanyel Ahmet, art and design teacher at Heathcote School, in Normanton Park Chingford, said her pupils spent several weeks designing sculptures which were taken away to be made by local artists then installed in the park last Friday, while other students performed dances on the evening.
Miss Ahmet said: “It is the biggest opportunity the students have had to display their work. It has been a collaboration between the art and physical education (PE) departments.
“The students and staff have worked really hard and pulled together to do this. It is just a small taste of what talents students have at the school.”
