THE MAYOR of Redbridge will test out his swing alongside other members of the borough's Chinese community at a charity golf day tomorrow (Tuesday).
Councillor Thomas Chan will join dozens of other eager amateur golfers on the fairway at Wanstead Golf Club to raise cash for his two chosen causes - Redbridge Business Education Partnership and the Redbridge branch of the Alzheimers Society.
The Wanstead ward councillor is thought to have become Britain's first ever Chinese mayor when he was elected to office by the council in May.
Bill Cranston, secretary of Wanstead Golf Club, said he was expecting a good day's golf.
He said: "It should be a jolly day, and it will be interesting to see how handy the mayor is with a golf club.
"There should be about 60 or so people here, many of them from the Chinese community in Redbridge.
"We're looking forward to it."
The event is due to begin at 1.30pm.
