TRAFFIC-CALMING measures may be installed in a Chingford road following the death of a young motorcyclist.
Mo Watts, 20, of Bernwell Road, Chingford, died after his motorbike collided with a van in Hatch Lane.
An initial inspection of the crash scene did not suggest the road's layout was a factor which contributed towards Mr Watt's death.
But in an email to Hatch Lane ward councillor Marion Fitzgerald, council officer Dave Evans said the council will design a number of traffic-calming schemes for implementation in the 2011/12 financial year, and the road is on a provisional list.
Mr Evans said: “We will be looking at safety improvements for Hatch Lane as part of improvements for the Longshaw Road neighbourhood area.”
Cllr Fitzgerald has called for a better pedestrian crossing near the slip road with New Road, while Chingford Green ward councillor and Hatch Lane resident Graham Sinclair has called for a traffic island near the junction with Ashwood Road, where Mr Watts died.
Mr Watts' father Marne, said he was unsure about whether traffic-calming measures were needed in Hatch Lane.
But he said motorists need to be more aware of motorcyclists while driving.
His son's accident is still being investigated by police.
No arrests have been made.
Any witnesses who have not yet come forward are urged to call the Collision Investigation Unit on 020 8597 4874.
