POLICE investigating an horrific unsolved murder in Abridge say they have been given a number of new leads following an appeal on TV show Crimewatch last night.
More than 100 people contacted officers and programme makers after the broadcast on BBC1, which asked for information into the death of Alderwood Drive resident Clive Enkel, who was killed on September 25 last year.
Mr Enkel, 53, was found by police with serious head injuries and died two days later in Queen's Hospital, Romford.
It is believed he was killed trying to protect his elderly father from a group of attackers.
Officers said today that the programme received 78 calls about the murder, with Essex Police getting another four.
They also received 17 text messages and two emails.
DI Anne Cameron said: “I am really pleased with the response we have had following the Crimewatch programme.
“I would still like to encourage people to phone us and give us any information you have as it may be crucial in helping us find the people responsible for this man’s death.”
The programme featured a reconstruction of what police think may have happened, along with an efit of a suspect they want to speak to.
Police were criticised earlier this year after two men were brought in for questioning before being released without charge on three separate occasions.
Despite the new information, police are still appealing for more people with information to come forward.
Anyone who thinks they may be able to help the investigation is being urged to contact the Brentwood Major Investigation Team on 0300 333 4444 ext 75229 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
