STAFF and pupils at Forest School have been taking part in a range of special activities to celebrate its 175th anniversary today (Thursday).
Events including a rowing competition, a cricket challenge and a rock concert will all be held throughout this afternoon to mark the founding of the school in 1834.
The festivities will conclude with a special dinner for staff and governors at the school tonight.
Teacher George Paynter said the school, in College Place, Snaresbrook, was proud of its long history.
He said: "The school's been here a long time, and seen massive changes.
"It started out with just 20 or so children, and now it has more than 1,200 boys and girls.
"This is an important year for us and we have all sorts of things planned over the coming months to celebrate this."
