CARS have been banished to the naughty step at a primary school in Woodford Green that is encouraging its pupils to walk to school.
Ray Lodge Primary School, on Snakes Lane East, have been taking part in the Walk to School Challenge ahead of national Walk to School Month.
Children have been wearing specialy designed T-shirts on their morning walk in, and adding the minutes that they have spent walking to a giant totaliser in front of the school.
With a target of 4,000 minutes across the school by the end of the month, each and every pupil's minutes will be important as they strive to hit their target.
Headteacher Jeanette Allen said: “I am a great supporter of the Walk to School campaign – many of our pupils already take part in the Walk Once a Week scheme with over 60 percent walking to school regularly, so we are really pleased to be launching Walk to School Month in the UK.
”We actively promote walking to school and our pupils learn about the benefits of walking, both for themselves and the environment.”
