A CANCER patient wrongly given the all-clear has said the doctor behind her misdiagnosis should not be reinstated in his old position.
Rita Blake, 73, of Alderwood Close in Abridge, was wrongly told by Dr Kong Fa Lan Keng Lun that a cancerous tumour in her left breast was only a cyst.
Dr Lun, formerly lead clinician at St Margaret's Hospital in Epping, was found guilty of misconduct at a GMC hearing in 2007 and given a supervision order banning him from management level, but this decision is being reviewed next week.
Mrs Blake said: “I'd feel bad if the order was lifted. I don't think it should be. He seems a very 'cool' guy, as they call them. I wouldn't say he's slapdash, but he's a bit casual in his diagnoses.
“I was going from 2003 to 2005 unaware I'd got a cancer inside me. I thought there was nothing wrong.
“ I don't think he should be allowed back. I was one who got away with it, but there were others who were quite bad.”
After Dr Lun's initial misdiagnosis, Mrs Blake was called back to the hospital for a further scan which revealed her “cyst” was in fact a malignant tumour.
Six years after she first saw Dr Lun, she has now made a near-full recovery.
She said: “I'm always worried at the beginning of the year when I have my mammogram done. So far it's been clear.
“I've got over it and at the beginning of next year, if I'm told I can stop the tablets, I'll be cured.”
The two-year supervision order placed on Dr Lun is due to expire next Tuesday (October 6) and the GMC will consider his case.
Mrs Blake said: “He was quite a nice man, airy-fairy almost, but I wouldn't be confident to see him again.”
