A SERVICE in memory of a homeless woman beaten to death in Walthamstow a year ago is to be held this afternoon (Sunday).
The murder of Melita Jo, whose body was found in the graveyard of St Mary's Church last September, still casts a dark shadow over Walthamstow village, with her killer still on the loose.
This afternoon's service will be held at St Mary's at 4pm, with all money raised going to a number of homeless charities.
A plaque on a bench in the churchyard will also be dedicated to Mrs Jo, who spent much of her time in the grounds of the church and was well known to many residents.
Katy Daniels, a St Mary's churchgoer, has helped organise the service.
She said: “It is a chance for the people of the community in which she lived to remember her.”
Anyone with information that could help the murder investigation should call police on 8345 3985 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
