PRIMARY school children got an early introduction to the world of tourism when they were set the task of selling their local parish as an attraction to visitors.

Pupils at Buckhurst Hill Community Primary School, in Lower Queen's Road, were given a potted history of their locality and issued with the materials to make their own positive poster.

Parish council chairman Joyce Darby was on hand to look at the resulting works and the best ones will be chosen for display at the parish offices in Queen's Road.

Year 4 and 5 Teacher Selina Graham said: “We wanted to encourage them to be positive about the community and to show them the importance of pictures and information.

“We were really surprised with what they came up with. We gave them just one sheet of paper and all 90 children came up with something different. Some had photos of different attractions of Buckhurst Hill, others produced brochures. They really enjoyed it and it's just nice to see what was in the area. A lot of them didn't realise there was so much.”
