TRAIN drivers and platform staff had their work cut out after hundreds of people turned up to ride one of the steam locomotives in Ridgeway Park.
Visitors travelled from as far as Yorkshire to help celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Ridgeway Miniature Railway in Chingford on Sunday.
The Mayor of Waltham Forest, Cllr Anna Mbachu, took a ride alongside ward councillors and hundreds of visitors arrived, some waiting for up to one hour to board a train.
The day organised by the Chingford and District Model Engineering Club, which owns and runs the trains, raised £1,328.24 from ticket sales for the Haven House Children Hospice and Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Club chairman, Roy Berg, said: “I would like to say a big thanks to all the members for their hard work on Sunday and all the members of the public for coming and being so patient while waiting for the trains.”
