AN event to urge shoppers to smile was held in the town square on Saturday.
The BBC's What Makes You Smile campaign aims to raise awareness about people can improve their mental well-being by smiling.
A host of activities took place in Walthamstow and five other town centres across the country as part of World Mental Health Day.
The town square event was hosted by BBC Radio London's Joanne Good and included “laughologists” on stage telling jokes, an interactive big smile game, a chance to quiz comedian Shazia Mirza and other activities including Tai Chi, clay-modelling, and karaoke.
The event was supported by Waltham Forest Council.
Cllr Liz Phillips, cabinet member for health said: “The council wants to help all our residents to lead healthy, active lives.
“While people often think of their physical fitness, they might not think about the importance of keeping a healthy mind.”
