GIIRLGUIDES and brownies planted rose bushes at the Town Hall to mark the organisation's centenary.
On Saturday, Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and their leaders from units across the borough met outside the Town Hall in Forest Road, Walthamstow, to mark the 100 years of Girlguiding UK.
The council gave the Girlguides the use of two raised flower beds in which different coloured bushes were planted to represent each section of Girlguiding.
Deputy Mayor Cllr Peter Woolcott, an avid supporter of the Scout Association and Girlguiding UK, gave a speech at the event.
Kay Bibbey, division commissioner for Waltham Forest South Division Guides, said: "Throughout the coming year the girls and their units will be taking it in turns to tend the roses and keep the flower beds tidy, so not only do we get to show the residents of the borough that Girlguiding UK is thriving in our borough but the girls also get to learn about gardening and caring for their environment."
