SHOPPERS will be encouraged to don their creative hats to take part in a mass drawing session in a former Woolworths store.
Artists Labern&Barker are holding a critical mass draw in the former Woolworths store in Leytonstone High Road on Saturday, where the public will be invited to sketch drawings in the papered-out shop.
The event is part of The Drawing Shed project, a mobile drawing studio created by Sally Labern and Sally Butler and funded by Arts Council England as part of Well London.
The shed was built with support from the YMCA in Forest Road, Walthamstow, where the artists worked with young men and women, drawing together and talking through issues affecting their lives.
Sessions have also been held at the Green Fair in Walthamstow, in schools and with young adults with learning disablities.
Artist Sally Labern said: “The drawing shed is the only mobile drawing studio and it has its home in Waltham Forest.
“Drawing is an inclusive, primal and immensely creative activity - it has literally drawn in people from all walks of life to work with us and share their ideas, their thoughts and their aspirations whilst we draw together.”
The former Woolworths store was also used as an art gallery called Pick'n'mix during the Leytonstone Arts Trail in June and July.
The drawing shed will be in Leytonstone town centre from 11am and the big draw starts in Woolworths at 12noon.
