AN open evening is being held to celebrate the achievements of a social action charity which helps people with mental illness and disabilities.

CREST Waltham Forest, an ecumenical Christian charity established by the churches of the borough in 1971, is holding an open evening tonight at Vestry House Museum in Walthamstow.

There will be the borough's largest timeline, showing the recent achievements of the charity, which include 150 referrals from GPs for a mental health project and providing 117 hours of day care for disabled people over the last year.

Alan Horne of CREST Waltham Forest said: “We have a project serving people with disabilities and now a mental health project that has been going for six months.

“We have 150 clients who have been referred to us from GPs with mild to medium mental health problems so we can help them access services in the community.

“That has been a great achievement so we really feel that we want to celebrate it.”

The open evening is today at Vestry House Museum, in Vestry Road, Walthamstow, from 7pm.

There will be presentations, live music and food and drink.
