A TWO year project to revamp Wanstead Leisure Centre will finally come to an end tomorrow (Thursday) when its new state-of-the-art sports hall is unveiled.
Redbridge Mayor Thomas Chan will be on hand to open the facility - which is the last part of the centre's renovation.
Hundreds of thousands of pounds have been spent on bringing the centre up to date - including the opening of a new fitness suite in 2007 and the recent creation of several outdoor games courts.
Self-confessed fitness freak Tony Danson, of Overton Drive, welcomed the news - but questioned the amount of time taken to complete the work.
He said: "I'm glad the council is taking sport seriously and investing in it. They really can't be faulted for that.
"The all-weather games area is a great edition. The kids love using it.
"The sports centre was in a terrible state before they started working on it, but it does seem to have taken an inordinate amount of time for them to get it finished.
"We can't complain too much though. At least it's done now."
