AN EXTRA 7,600 homes will have to be built in Waltham Forest by 2021 under new targets set by Mayor of London Boris Johnson.
The new London Plan features targets for the number of new homes each borough is expected to build in the next decade.
Waltham Forest is expected to build 760 new homes a year from 2011 to 2021.
Redbridge has the same target, but other neighbouring boroughs Newham and Hackney will have to build more - 25,000 and 11,160 respectively.
The plan estimates that London needs 32,600 new homes a year until 2017.
This calculation is based on predictions that the population will rise by 1.3m, that the average size of households will drop to 2.19 people and the need to address existing housing shortfalls.
The City Hall report says: “With a growing population and more households, delivering more homes for Londoners meeting a range of needs, of high design quality and supported by the social infrastructure essential to a good quality of life will be a particular priority over the period covered by the plan.”
