A BASE for a safer neighbourhood team was opened by Chingford MP Iain Duncan Smith.
The office in a former post office in Sewardstone Road, has no front counter but will be used by officers for the Chingford Green and Endlebury areas whenever the teams are on duty.
The base was officially opened today at a ceremony to be attended by Mr Duncan Smith MP and ward councillors and ward panel chairs.
Chief Superintendent Benbow, Borough Commander of Waltham Forest said: “The Safer Neighbourhood Teams are here to stay; it is what real policing is about and I am proud to open this base today.
"It shows our continuing commitment in providing a local service to local people dealing with their local problems.”
Ian Duncan Smith MP, said: "I know what a difference the Safer Neighbourhoods Teams have made for local residents.
“Having a base in the area, and police officers who know the area and know local people, means that problems can be picked up and dealt with, making everyone safer."
