FURIOUS householders have said they will be unable to park outside their own homes if proposed road restrictions come in.
Under the Loughton Broadway area review, residents in Ibbetson Path will have double yellow lines down one side of their road and a single yellow line, allowing no parking between 10am and 12pm on the other.
Resident Sam Silverman, 83, said: Because of the commuters, it's understandable, but you've got to go out there at 9.55am, shift your car somewhere and go out at 12 O'Clock to pick it back up. It's very awkward.
“It's going to destroy family life. My son is up in Kent, my daughter is in Derbyshire. They come and see us every so often. They reckon they're going to have these restrictions even on a Sunday. You've got to buy a visitors' book so they can come and see you. I know it's not a fortune, a pound a day, but still when you're pensioners you don't want all of this.”
His wife Vi, 82, added: “I can understand restrictions in a main road because of all the traffic, but in these little side roads it seems petty.”
The long-awaited parking review which is being carried out by Essex County Council on behalf of the district council, is currently in the consultation process.
Many residents near Debden Station welcome a clampdown on commuters but some further away have said it is unnecessary in their streets.
Heather Pardoe, 63, of Ibbetson Path said:“Yes I'm fed up with people parking here- sometimes for up to ten days- but the restriction is a ridiculous request. My own son won't be able to park. If people are working and leave their cars here what are they going to do? Leave their job over the other side of London, come back and move the car?”
Her neighbour Janice Earse, 53, said: “10am to midday is absolutely ridiculous. For people like me without a drive it won't work.
"Permit parking is fine, but not at an exorbitant price like £25.”
County councillor for Loughton Broadway John Knapman branded the proposed scheme “unworkable”.
He said: “The Loughton residents in the Broadway area need a scheme which is tailor made to them, and this scheme certainly isn't.”
Residents have until this Friday, October 23 to reply to the consultation document available at essexcc.gov.uk.
