NEW library users in Epping Forest are to be issued with 'fob' devices alongside traditional membership cards, under a new scheme to modernise Essex's book service.
The fobs, designed to fit onto key rings, work in the same way as library cards and can be scanned whenever a person checks out or returns a book, CD or DVD.
Existing library members can request one of the devices at any of the county's libraries.
The project is the brainchild of Essex County Council, and its cabinet member for adults, health and community wellbeing, Cllr David Finch, said: "the new key fobs are another innovation in ensuring stress free library access.
"Chances are you’ll have your keys whenever you leave home keeping your key fob with you, that way you can pop in anytime."
