GREEN fingered schoolchildren have rolled up their sleeves to help plant a thousand bulbs in a popular park.
More than 120 youngsters from Churchfields Junior School joined a group of volunteers to replant the flower beds at Elmhurst Gardens, in South Woodford.
The children, all from year three at the school, buried a crop of scillas before watching the raising of the Green Flag - which was recently awarded to the park for its cleanliness and the quality of its facilities.
The park is one of only two in the borough to have qualified for the status this year.
Claire Marriott, of the Friends of Elmhurst Gardens, thanked the youngsters for their hard work.
She said: "The children were a great help and really seemed to enjoy the work.
"They also got the chance to learn about insects and leaves in the park.
"The community helps maintain the park, and we're proud of getting the Green Flag."
