CAMPAIGNERS who marched from three Redbridge Tube stations to raise funds for dementia support services - have been praised for their efforts.

Dozens of people raised more than £1,500 after setting off simultaneously from South Woodford, Woodford and Wanstead Underground Stations on a sponsored walk to Churchfields Park.

The event, last month, was organised by Lillette Ebrahim-Khan, manager of Palm Nursing Home in Glengall Road, Woodford Green, to raise money for the Alzheimers Society which provides services for dementia sufferers and their carers in Redbridge.

The 52 year-old, who has cared for elderly people for decades, said the families of dementia sufferers need as much support as possible to cope with the stress and uncertainty caused by the condition.

She said: "Thank you so much to all the people who joined us on the walks.

"It's so important that the families of people suffering from dementia get help.

"It can be really traumatic and stressful for people, particularly young people who don't really understand it.

"Dementia can completely change the personality of the person involved, which is very hard for people to cope with."
