A WALTHAMSTOW museum has launched a bid to raise funds for a gallery to house the AV Roe replica triplane.
This summer marked 100 years since Alliott Verdon-Roe flew the first all-British built plane on Walthamstow marshes.
An attempt was made last week to fly a replica of the plane at Woodvale airport, in Merseyside, but it failed to get off the ground, with the Roe foundation blaming extra weight due to modern safety requirements.
Lindsay Collier, the director of the Lea Valley Experience, in South Access Road, says he has had an assurance that the replica's eventual home will be at his museum.
But the museum needs to raise £2m to build a gallery for the plane.
