MISLEADING road signs are putting motorists at risk in Chingford, it has been claimed.

Between 7.30am and 9am every day motorists travelling along Station Road, in the direction of The Green are not allowed to turn right into the side roads.

The council routinely has spy cars in the side roads to make sure the rules, which are to prevent rat running, are enforced.

But the signs telling drivers not to turn right are on the right hand side of the road and are after the junctions.

This according to businessman Malcolm Barton, who works from an office overlooking the junction with Connaught Avenue, means motorists often don't realise the restrictions are in place until after they have started turning.

Mr Barton said: “Something should be done about this, I have seen lorry drivers try and turn around in Station Road to avoid being caught, with lines of traffic queuing in both directions, it is dangerous.

“It is all about making money.”

It is not believed the signs are contravening any laws.
